Transition
I recently discovered this op-doc by Zina Saro Wiwa. Granted it was released in 2012 but it's still a beautiful piece on women transitioning to "natural" hair, their process and experiences. In particular it starts off with Saro Wiwa's own examination of her apprehension and feelings around cutting her hair and the reasons she decided to remain with "natural" hair.
Moreover it examines hair from the political, of which, due to to it being gendered, sexualised and racialised, must of course be political. What is interesting however is how an individualised action has become a political and social movement

Summer Sundaze @ Duma's Falling Leaves Jazz Rendezvous
Event was held on the 07th of April 13 in Gugulethu NY 147 @ a jazz joint called Duma's Falling Leaves,as this was the weekend of the Cape Town Jazz Festival it was fitting that this party was themed "Jazz Music"......the event started slowly seeing local poet by the name of Khanyi gracing us with her spoken words.
And the DJs kept us going with the tunes on the decks. The next act came by a dance company called 3rd Base and their piece titled "Man on Hills".....the guys gave a very electrifying performance which saw them giving a second performance later at the event, after their performance the guys stayed in costume and enjoyed the party in their characters.
As the evening progressed we saw another performances, the last band to perform was Bokani Dyer and the band, the guys brought the house down and got the party pumping.
Later Pastor Ntone got us on the dance floor till the we went home.....all in all this event was created to give platform to artists to showcase their work and network with fellow creators and this event is achieving just that.
